Your Networking Fortune is in Your Follow-Up!

When networking, following up does not mean simply adding those people you meet at networking events to your e-mail list, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. It's more than that.It takes a concentrated effort to go out of your way - in other words, "plan to follow-up" - to stay connected to the key players in your network. Effective follow-up is a key piece of the networking puzzle!Let me clarify: As a part of your follow-up "it is" important to add contacts to your e-mail list, Facebook, Twitter…See More

Cut! Take 27! - That's a Wrap!

When actors are shooting scenes in a movie, if the scene didn't go well, the director will shout, "Cut!" Next, he will have a few brief words with the actors and do another take. When the actors do the scene to his satisfaction, he'll say, "That's a wrap!" and move on to what's next.It seems to me that with so many people attending large networking events that after a few events they would see that how they are attempting to network isn't working and the next time. . . do another take!Hmmm.…See More

With Wallet or Purse in Hand. . .

. . . if your networking group assesses a fee for belonging, please pay your dues on time. They depend on a certain influx of dollars to sustain the kind of networking environment you need in which to network.Let’s face it, some groups are worth it, others are not.My own personal belief is that most are – provided you are in touch with the accepted rules of networking engagement. So, in other words, the groups you attend are only as effective as you are. The fees for belonging to the group…See More

There’s No Business Like “Show Up” Business!

“Eighty percent of success is showing up!” – Woody Allen“I don’t have the time!” Oh, really? People buy benefits. You do nothing unless there is a benefit in it for you. Right? You will show up when you decide that the benefits far outweigh the reasons you think you don’t have the time. Some of the benefits…See More

Give Your Brand Some Personal "Curb Appeal" at Networking Events!

Making a great first impression is important if you want to be successful in business, especially when it comes to networking events. People form permanent opinions of those they meet within a few minutes of setting eyes upon them. Making a great first impression can be tricky to say the least. Our words, appearance, actions, facial expressions and body language play an important part of how others perceive who we are.Every point of contact with your personal brand should reflect the impression…See More

Monkey See, Monkey Do! – Be a Change Agent!

You're at a networking event. Check out the scene.Does anyone look like they know what they are doing? Or. . .are they running around passing out and collecting as many business cards as they can stuff in their pockets or purses? How smart is that? That is NOT networking!Networking is NOT about you! It's about helping others. It's not some last-minute thing you do to save your business from the brink. Developing new relationships take time.I love networking. It is what helped get me to where I…See More

Shop for a GREAT Networking Group… Then STOP!

It has been my experience that eventually it will be time to settle into a single neworking group and focus all you networking energy there. Hard-contact networking groups are groups that are very structured and play by the rules. In other words, you "must" attend weekly meetings where the group's leader calls the meeting to order, goes over housekeeping stuff, and then everyone gets a chance to do a 30-second connection (some call this an elevator speech) of themselves. Once people know who…See More

Hi Larry,

Your book the Ten Commitments of Networking is one of the best books I have read in a long time! It's sales, self help and networking all wrapped into one. I did not want to put it down last night! I hope that others will check it out as it's a must read for anyone in business...Andrew
