What should I do? Problem dog

Question: I have a Maltese mix and have had him since he was a very small puppy, he has always been socialized with other animals (dogs, cats, even horses) and people but it never really "took". He is never outright aggressive but he growls whenever the cat or puppy come into his space and otherwise ignores them. He also is very irritable when I am not around and will poo on the carpet even though he is potty trained(he's almost 4 btw). Lately he has also come to be very jealous of my…See More

House training an older dog

Question: Ok so I rescued Duke. He comes from a home where he was not well feed, yellowing teeth, much to much for his age. He was taken from the house that had 10 other dogs and hadn't been fed for sometime. Then he spend 10 days in PACC. Here is our little Dukes problem, he goes to the bathroom on towels and rugs and if lucky enough to get him to go outside its on piles of pine needles. She bought and put in a doggy door but still... New mom is not happy. What kind of retraining ideas can I…See More

PACK LIFE

Many people have more than one dog in their household. They may be able to control and get by with two dogs in a family situation, but the minute they add a third dog they have a dog pack. When a dog pack is established in a home the balance of nature changes and it is only a matter of time before these animals begin to test their new relationships within the pack. Sometimes this is done without a fight but more often than not a fight takes place. This fight takes place because…

Fear Aggression

Fear aggression is not a simple behavior that can be easily diagnosed and treated. It is an entire spectrum of behaviors, ranging from a simple snap on a single occasion to Cujo, a foaming at the mouth maniac. What produces fear aggression is a mixture of things - socialization, temperament, abuse, genetics, training, or a trauma. Untreated, fear aggression only gets worse.

Fear aggression is exactly as it sounds - aggression produced as a result of fear. Not all scared dogs will get… Continue

What is the "Alpha Dog" or "Pack Leader"

It can be confusing to tell dog owners to become their dog's pack leader - some think you mean it's ok to use aggressive and forceful means to control the dog. What many misunderstand, is the role of the pack leader and that most dog behavior problems arise out of an owner's misunderstanding of the proper role of the pack leader. In the canine world there are no unstable leaders. A pack leader is fair, confident and calm, yet assertive. A pack leader doesn't question their instincts nor do they… Continue

Thank you for the invite Jamie,

I would be honored to present to your group classes. I see you have valuable wisdom to share about the world of dog behavior, wonderful!

I invite you to add Mega R. Mease to your list of friends too. I am an Off-Site Practitioner of her healing center, The Center for Advanced Energy Therapeutics, and teach my Animal Reiki Basics Training there as well.

I look forward to connecting with you soon,
Andra
